Yes, the Maverick II is an outstanding, solid, professional grade pedal steel guitar, good for beginners, advanced players and Pro’s alike. Its quality of craftsmanship, tone and smooth, responsive pedal action is unmatched in (and above) its class.

The Maverick II weight = 25 lbs.
Standard Case (made by Red Dirt) = 25 lbs.
Total weight Maverick II and case = 50 lbs.

Our standard cases are built by Red Dirt Case Company. They are protective for basic traveling and shipping, but we do not recommend you fly with it. Red Dirt and other case companies offer ATA-approved cases, which are recommended for flight travel.

The Maverick is built on an aluminum frame, with drum wrap panels on the front and rear, with a hard rock maple sound board. The soundboard can be finished with black mica or lacquer. It has a simple, single puller design, similar to that used on the Sho-Bud Permanent models. The Maverick II pulling system is referred to as a “Pull/Release” system.

It is perfect for players that use a standard pedal setup. It comes across crisp and clean in the studio and cuts through on stages of all sizes. Its light weight makes it a winner for road warriors. It is also a great guitar to learn on, due to its playing design. Its like butter! (Quote from a Maverick II owner).

The Pro V and Pro VI models are built on wood frames, with lacquer finishes, and have a split puller design. The Pro V is an “all pull” system, designed to handle more complex pedal setups.

Both systems ensure excellent tuning stability and smooth operation.

We use the classic Sho-Bud single coil pickup designed by Shot Jackson, maintaining the authentic Sho-Bud tone that helped create the Nashville Sound. Our pickups are now made by Seymour Duncan, wound to the same classic specifications. Our standard winding is approximately 16.5K ohms.

No. The Maverick II pulling system does not accommodate additional knee levers or foot pedals. See our Pro V and Pro VI models, which will accommodate additional foot pedals and/or knee levers.

No. The Maverick II single-puller system is designed for simplicity and sound. It has limitations on the pulls it can make. See our Pro V and Pro VI models for custom pedal setups.

I love my Sho-Bud Maverick II, it has that balance I look for—smooth pedal action, even response across the neck, and a tone that stays warm without losing clarity. The upper register speaks clean and present, never brittle. It holds tuning through flights and back-to-back shows, which makes it a real touring instrument. The custom champagne sparkle finish pops under stage lights, giving it just the right amount of glitter.
