Common Questions
What makes the Maverick II stand out?
he Maverick II is an outstanding, professional-grade pedal steel guitar. Its craftsmanship, tone, and smooth, responsive pedal action are unmatched in (and above) its class. It’s a great fit for beginners, advanced players, and pros alike. At 24 lbs it’s the lightest Sho-Bud we build, with three foot pedals and four knee levers, the same Sho-Bud single-coil pickup we use across the line, and the modern Sho-Bud “ashtray” keyhead with Kluson tuners. Available in three configurations.
How long does it take to build, and how does it ship?
We’re currently running approximately 3–4 months on Maverick II builds. We use UPS Ground for all guitar shipments, unless other arrangements are made in advance. Once your guitar is completed, you’ll receive the UPS tracking number.
Do you offer payment plans or deposits?
Yes! We use Affirm as a financing option, which is a simple click away at checkout. 0% interest available if paid off within 6 months!!
What's the difference between the Maverick II and the Pro Series?
The Maverick II uses our single-piece “Permanent” pulling design. It’s reliable for stages and studios. Classy, flashy or sassy. Fits in everywhere. Fixed E9 pedal setup (see chart above). The Pro V and Pro VI use the all-bearing pulling system with roller bearings on every moving part, which gives you our smoothest action plus the ability to customize your knee levers and foot pedals configurations. Both are professional instruments built to the same Sho-Bud standard. The Pro Series is the move if you want an all-wood guitar with customization options.
What pickup comes in the Maverick II?
The Maverick II uses the same single-coil pickup as the rest of the Sho-Bud line. Original design by Shot Jackson, made by Seymour Duncan.
How much does it weigh, in and out of its case?
The Maverick II weighs 24 lbs on its own. It’s the lightest pedal steel we build. The standard hard shell case adds 26 lbs, for a total of about 50 lbs packed.
Is it safe to fly with in its standard case?
Our standard cases are made by Red Dirt Case Company. They’re protective for everyday transport and shipping, but we don’t recommend flying with them. Air travel is hard on instruments, and standard cases aren’t built for those impacts. For flying, we recommend an ATA-approved case. Red Dirt and other case makers offer them, and you can add one to your build.
Can I add a knee lever or foot pedal to the Maverick II?
Not on this model. The Maverick II ships with three foot pedals and four knee levers, and that’s the configuration. If you need to add KL/FP or build a custom setup, the Pro V or Pro VI is the move.
Can I get a custom pedal setup on the Maverick II?
The Maverick II ships with its standard E9 pedal setup. The mechanism is built around a fixed configuration. Custom copedents are available on the Pro V and Pro VI.
What colors and finishes are available?
The Maverick II has two appearance options that can be configured independently: the body finish and the soundboard.
Body finish: Standard is Black Laminate. Eleven upgrade finishes are available for $75 each: Champagne Sparkle, plus glass glitter in Black, Silver, Red, Green, Blue, White, Pink, Turquoise, Tangerine, and Gold.
Soundboard: Standard is Maple with Black Mica. A Figured Maple soundboard is available for $300, with three finishing options: Natural (showing the wood grain), Solid finish (your choice of color), or Fade finish (your color in a graduated fade). Exotic woods are also available; contact us for pricing.
Custom artwork is available regardless of which body finish or soundboard you choose. Email us your design or reference for a quote.
What's included with my guitar?
-Hard shell case (made by Red Dirt Cases)
-Tuning wrench (used on nylon tuners, to tune Raises and Lowers)
-Leg Pouch (for legs and pedal rods)
-Lifetime warranty on craftsmanship (same owner only).
