The Sho-Bud pedal steel Lineup

The Maverick II uses our single-finger “Permanent” pulling mechanism. It’s simple, reliable, and built around a fixed configuration. The Pro V and Pro VI use the all-bearing Pro Series pulling system, which gives a different feel under the pedals and the ability to add knee levers, foot pedals, and a custom copedent. All are professional instruments built to the same Sho-Bud standard.

Both use the Pro Series all-bearing pulling system and a Hard Rock Maple frame, so they share the core Pro Series feel.

The Pro V is our flagship, with a classic frame design with straight edges and features a step-down armrest, wood neck, the classic Sho-Bud “Gumby” keyhead, and Grover Rotomatics tuners.

The Pro VI has a single frame body style with rounded edges and no step-down armrest. The base model has a low-profile CNC-cut aluminum neck and the Sho-Bud “ashtray” keyhead with Kluson tuners. A wood-neck upgrade with raised components is available as the Pro VI Classic.

The Madison is the newest model in the Sho-Bud family. It pairs an aluminum frame with a wood neck, the single-finger “Permanent” bridge, and the classic Sho-Bud “Gumby” keyhead. The simpler mechanism of our Maverick line combined with the traditional Sho-Bud look.

The Pro V Signature is a fully custom Pro V, designed from the ground up with our builders. No catalog SKU. You pick the woods, the finish, the inlay, the configuration. Every Signature is personally hand-built and signed by Harry and David Jackson.

A pedal steel can be built with one neck or two, each tuned differently. The single neck is tuned to E9, the standard “Nashville” tuning used in country, pop, rock, and most modern pedal steel playing. The double neck adds a second neck typically tuned to C6, which opens up jazz, Western swing, Hawaiian, and older country styles. Most players choose single-neck E9. Go double-neck if you want to cover a broader range of styles, or if you regularly play gigs that move between genres in one set.

Custom pedal setups are available on the Pro V and Pro VI. The Maverick II and Madison ship with our standard E9 setup, built around a fixed configuration. On the Pro Series you can also add extra knee levers and foot pedals at $250 each.

Build times vary by model and current order volume. The Maverick II and Madison run approximately 3–5 months. The Pro VI and Pro V are 5-7 months. The Pro V Signature is quoted individually based on the spec.
