FAQ

Common Questions

Both share the Pro V all-bearing pulling system, Sho-Bud “Gumby” keyhead, single-coil pickup, and core construction. The Classic is built with hard rock maple, a custom lacquer or poly finish, classic Sho-Bud diamond binding, and the traditional hearts/spades/diamonds/clubs fretboard. It’s the Sho-Bud sound and look players have known for decades. The Signature Series adds exotic and figured woods, custom abalone and mother-of-pearl inlays, and is personally hand-built and signed by Harry and David Jackson.

Both share the Sho-Bud Pro-Series All-Pull system with bearings, a single-coil pickup, teardrop knee levers, classic diamond inlay and undercarriage components. They are both made standard with figured maple and choice of color with a lacquer finish. The difference is the cabinet size and design:

The Pro V uses a 11 ½″-width wood frame with squared edges and a step-down/armrest. It is available in both a single neck and double neck model.

The Pro VI uses a narrower 8″-width wood frame with rounded edges and no stepdown/armrest. It offers two top-board design packages, but is only available in a single neck model.

The Pro-Series All-Pull system uses a three-piece string puller, designed to handle more demanding pedal setups. The result is extremely smooth pedal and knee-lever action. Less friction, a more consistent feel, and reliable return-to-pitch over long sets.

The Perm-Series Pull-Release system uses a single-piece string puller, which is great for sound transfer, but it has setup limitations. Simple design, less weight.

The guitar weighs 35 lbs on its own. The standard hard shell case adds 26 lbs, for a total of roughly 61 lbs packed.

Our standard cases are protective for everyday transport and shipping, but we don’t recommend flying with them. Air travel is hard on instruments, and standard cases aren’t built for those impacts. For flying, we recommend an ATA-approved case., which you can add as an option to your build.

See our Standard E9 and C6 pedal setups here Custom copedents are available at no upcharge., unless requiring additional foot pedals and/or knee levers (available for $300/each). Email us your setup and we’ll build it to spec.

Yes. Additional knee levers (up) and additional foot pedals are each $300. Add them at checkout.

The Pro V Classic is built with hard rock maple with your choice of custom lacquer or poly finish. Specify your color in the Comments field at checkout. Custom Pantone-matched colors are $200. Add paint chip brand and number in Comments when checking out.

A pedal steel can be built with one neck or two, each tuned differently. The single-neck Pro V is tuned to E9, the standard “Nashville” tuning used in country, pop, rock, and most modern pedal steel playing. The double-neck adds a second neck typically tuned to C6, which opens up jazz, Western swing, Hawaiian, and older country styles. Most players choose single-neck E9. Go double-neck if you want to cover a broader range of styles, or if you regularly play gigs that move between genres in one set.

  • Hard shell case
  • Tuning wrench (used on nylon tuners, to tune Raises and Lowers)
  • Leg Pouch (for legs and pedal rods)
  • Lifetime warranty on craftsmanship (same owner only)
