Common Questions
What makes the Signature Series different from the Pro V Classic?
The Signature Series is the top of the Sho-Bud line. Every guitar is hand-built and personally signed by Harry and David Jackson, sons of the original Sho-Bud co-founder, Shot Jackson. It features music-grade figured maple and/or exotic woods, lacquer finish, and your choice of inlay (wood, abalone, mother-of-pearl) on the front apron, fretboard and armrest. Custom themes and designs are welcomed. It shares the same Pro V all-bearing pulling system, hardware, and pickup as the Classic.
Is the Signature Series available in a Double Neck?
Yes, the Signature model is available in a double neck, with the base price starting at $12,500.
How do I order a Pro V Signature?
Because every Signature is fully custom, we build to your design rather than from a fixed catalog. Start by submitting our Pro V Signature quote request. Choose your woods, color, hardware options, pedal and knee-lever configuration, and upload any inlay artwork, reference photos, or color samples. We’ll review, finalize the design with you, and send a detailed quote. Once you approve it and submit your deposit, your build is added to the queue.
How long does it take to build, and how does it ship?
Build time is approximately 7-9 months from the date your deposit is received and the final design is approved. Complex inlay or custom design work can extend the timeline, and we’ll estimate the timeframe in your quote. We use UPS Ground for all guitar shipments, unless other arrangements are made in advance. All shipments are fully insured, and you’ll receive the UPS tracking number once your guitar is completed.
What does a Pro V Signature cost?
The starting price for the Signature Series is $10K, based on an all-maple frame, your choice of color, with our standard Sho-Bud diamond inlay. Final price will be based on inlay customization and knee lever/foot pedal configuration.
How does deposit and payment work?
50% deposit required upon approved quote. Once wood is ordered, deposit is non-refundable. Balance is due prior to shipping. We accept credit cards, wire transfers and checks for deposit and balances due.
Who builds the Signature Series?
Harry and David Jackson personally hand-build and sign every Signature Series instrument. They’re sons of Shot Jackson, who co-founded Sho-Bud in 1955, and bring more than half a century of family craftsmanship to each guitar. More than a guitar, these are collector’s items and works of art.
What woods are available?
Pro V Signature Series pedal steels are built in your choice of music-grade figured maple (builder’s choice) or other exotic woods like koa, mahogany and others from around the world. Select your preference on the quote form. Pricing varies with the wood selected, and we’ll confirm availability and final cost in your quote.
Can I commission a fully custom inlay or theme?
Yes! Custom inlay is central to the Signature Series. Optional materials include abalone, mother-of-pearl, and specialty woods on the front apron, fretboard and armrest. Past Signatures include the Hummingbird, White Stallion, and Blue Heron. Upload photos, sketches, or a description on the quote form, and we’ll work up a design and quote together.
Can I get a custom pedal setup and copedent?
Yes. The Signature model can accommodate custom pedal setups.. Submit your pedal setup on the quote form, or note your preferred changes and we’ll confirm them with you.
ow much does it weigh, in and out of its case?
The guitar weighs 35 lbs on its own. The standard hard shell case adds 26 lbs, for a total of roughly 61 lbs packed.
Is it safe to fly with?
Our standard cases are made by Red Dirt Case Company. They’re protective for everyday transport and shipping, but we don’t recommend flying with them. Air travel is hard on instruments, and standard cases aren’t built for those impacts. For flying, we recommend an ATA-approved case. Red Dirt and other case makers offer them, and you can add one to your build.
What's included with my guitar?
- Hard shell case (made by Red Dirt Cases)
- Tuning wrench (used on nylon tuners, to tune Raises and Lowers)
- Leg Pouch (for legs and pedal rods)
- Lifetime warranty on craftsmanship (same owner only)
